Biography:
I am interested in the relationship between stigma on mental illness and media. Unlike the way people think of physical illness, people regard mental illness as something to hide due to stigma. As a result, the mentally ill often avoid seeking proper help. The failure of receiving necessary treatment can lead to a lot of social problems such as low productivity, crime, or suicide, etc. Therefore, it is crucial to eliminate mental illness related stigma. Media, which have significant effect on the way people think, play crucial role in stigma formation. Thus, I want to look at how media affects stigma formation aiming to figure out the ways to reduce stigma.
I graduated from Sookmyung Woman's University in South Korea, and received B.A. degree in Telecommunication and Counseling psychology.
