Biography:
As a doctoral student in the department, I am currently pursuing a research focus centered on new media, particularly social media and digital games. I am investigating reciprocity and altruistic behavior across social media networks, as well as the rise of social games and social media play as it intersects with issues of gender, sexuality and the video game industry. I earned my B.A. in Speech Communication at Pennsylvania State University, and my M.S. in Communication at Indiana State University, then chose to work in software development as a technical writer and trainer for several years with Bottomline Technologies (Portsmouth, NH) before electing to return to academia. I hope to combine my research interests with my passion for teaching undergraduates in a future academic career, guiding students to understanding of the media landscape and careers in communication.
In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, camping, travel, media fandom, reading fiction, and playing video games.
