The Media School

I received my BA in Philosophy from Queens College in 2009 before moving to Bloomington in order to pursue a PhD in Telecommunications.
My research interests primarily revolve around the effects of media on social identity and the behaviors that express those effects in mediated social settings. Of particular interest to me is the discourse of internet communities consisting of individuals with marginalized, concealable identities who draw a spiritual or philosophical aspect of their identities from fictional sources. I am also interested in the effects of interactive media which are designed to encourage the user to take on a role or identity on self-reflection and identity work. These include, but are not limited to, games. In my free time, I enjoy karate, observing nature, and keeping up on the latest innovations in gaming.
