T437: WTIU Production Workshop

WTIU Our Town
Instructors: John Winninger
Credits: 3

Description: WTIU public television seeks student participation in a series of television programs, entitled “Our Town”, that showcases communities in the station’s 20-county southern Indiana broadcast area.  Working under the supervision of WTIU staff producers, students will help produce a television documentary about a community in southern Indiana. Student tasks will include meeting with townspeople to determine interesting stories in the community, then researching, writing, videotaping and editing segments for the 40-minute program. The program will be featured on WTIU during its upcoming fund drive. Participating students will receive 3 credit hours and an on-screen credit in the television program as a Segment Producer.  This is a great opportunity to build your resume and produce programming for your demonstration reel that actually will be aired by a major Indiana public television station.

Prerequisites:  T351 Field Production is a prerequisite for this class. Special consideration will be given to students who have completed television-writing classes such as T211 or T311.  Class participation requires authorization of instructor based upon an interview and review of previous work.

Other: Although a regular meeting time will be established (based upon participant’s schedules) to maintain class continuity, the bulk of the class work will be done at irregular times when community members, taping locations, and editing facilities are available.
