Orientation to the switcher
Closest to you, there are two rows of buttons:
Red Bus (PGM) = Program (live, on air)
White Bus (PST) = Preview or Background “BGD”
The Transition area is to the right of the Program and Preview busses,
and is labeled “Transitions”
*All transitions go from preview to program
To the right of the transition area is the “Manual Fader”
On the far right is the “Down Stream Key” area. (Down Stream
Key is the last part of the program before it goes to tape)
To Make a Cut
1. Select your source in the white preview bus.
2. Press the “Cut” button in the “Transition”
area. (make sure white BGD button is also lit).
3. You can also make what is called a Live Cut, by pressing your cut
source’s button in the red program bus.
To Make a Dissolve
1. Select your preview source on the white preview bus.
2. Select Mix in the “Transition” area (with BGD lit).
3. You can use the auto button in the transition area to have the computer
do a timed dissolve, or you can use the manual fader lever to the right.
To Key CG over Video
1. Check your CG preview monitor to be sure the correct graphic is cued.
2. To dissolve or cut CG over video, press the “Key 4 Mix”
or ”Key 4 Cut” button in the “Down Stream Key”.
(two little pink buttons on the right hand side)
3. Removing CG is done the same way as adding it.
4. To key CG over Black, just press the CG button in the program or
preview bus.
To Change Transition to a Wipe
1. Select your preview source on the white preview bus.
2. Select Wipe in the “transition” area (with BGD lit).
3. Select you wipe pattern in the touch screen pad at the top of the
switcher (the button will have a picture of the wipe transition that
is currently selected)
4. You can use the auto button in the transition area to have the computer
do timed wipe, or you can use the manual fader lever to the right.
5. The switcher will continue to do wipes until the mix button is re-selected
(in the transition area). Make sure to press the mix button when you
want to go back to dissolves.
To Change Transition Speed
1. Hold down “Trans. Dur” button in the “Effects”
area at the top of the board.
2. While holding down the button, you will notice some buttons flashing.
Press the button you want to change the transition speed for, and release
the “Trans. Dur.” button.
3. You will now notice the number keypad in the “effects”
area is lit up and the display window will show the current transition
duration (in frames). Use the number keys to type in your desired transition
duration and press the “Trim/Enter” button in the keypad,
on lower right corner of the key pad.
Down Stream Black
“Panic” Black is located as last downstream item in the
switcher. These buttons will override anything else that was compiled
previous, and give a black screen. These buttons are often used when
something is going wrong, and the program has to be stopped immediately
(hence the name “Panic” Black)
