Letter from the editor

“The Fine Print” is an eclectic online production celebrating the undergraduate culture of Indiana University and its prestigious English Program.

Webster defines rebirth as “a new or second birth” and also “spiritual regeneration."  In a way, we are each reborn as we rise every morning.  We come out of “Our little Death from which we daily do survive," as Robert Duncan so elegantly writes, and attempt to face the world on its own terms.  Each day a different snowflake, we are faced with new conflicts, strange encounters, old poems and stories, and many second or third chances at things we once thought lost.  We reinvent ourselves and change with the passing years, seasons and hours.  It is in this spirit, the spirit of rebirth, that “The Fine Print” has been constructed, or reconstructed, for this momentous Fall Issue.

Our staff approached this issue with an imaginative spirit and a desire to spread the contagious energy infused in this campus and its literary and artistic events.  Take some time and browse the new site!  More than just the appearance has changed.  You will find articles ranging from the coverage of a Dionysian poetry/dance production to an informative interview with recent MFA graduate, and new Creative Writing advisor, Matthew Colglazier.

Explore a bilingual poetry reading with our Features Editor or take a trip overseas and read the wonderful article written by our foreign correspondent currently residing just outside London, England.

This site exists to promote the English Department, its activities, academic programs of study, and the creative works of IU’s undergraduates from all disciplines.  We hope you enjoy the new site.  If you have any questions, comments or a desire to submit short fiction, creative non-fiction, or poetry, feel free to e-mail us at fineprnt@indiana.edu.

Best Wishes,
