Senior Showcase 2012

Five years after our musical theatre program first began, our BFA  students are taking New York and the world by storm. Our IU Theatre alumni have gained top billing on stage and screen nationally and internationally!

This year IU Theatre is partnering with Baldwin-Wallace College's Music Theatre Conservatory to present our 2012 graduates in New York for an outstanding Musical Theatre Showcase at the York Theatre.

CabaretJamie Anderson
Jamie is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. Her IU Theatre credits include Hair (Mom), Happily Ever Chloe (Ensemble), Anything Goes (Mrs. Harcourt), Rent (Homeless/Faceless), and A Little Night Music (Charlotte). For the Indiana Festival Theatre she has appeared in The Music Man (Ethel Toffelmier) and in A Christmas Carol (Belle) for Bloomington's Cardinal Stage Company. A former member of the Broadway Cabaret and the Varsity Singing Hoosiers, Jamie is from Chesterfield, Missouri.

CabaretFrancesca Arostegui
Francesca is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. Her IU Theatre credits include Hair (Chrissy), Happily Ever Chloe (Ensemble), Anything Goes (Bonnie), Rent (Mrs. Cohen), Blood Brothers (Ensemble), The Rockae (Maenad), Oklahoma! (Aggie), and The Wild Party (Nadine). She served as Dance Captain and appeared as Zaneeta Shinnfor Indiana Festival Theatre'sThe Music Man and played Consuela in IU Opera Theater'sWest Side Story. An Elly Award winner, Francesca has performed with the Sacramento Music Circus, Sacramento Opera, and Sacramento Ballet in her hometown of Sacremento, California.

CabaretCharnette Batey
Charnette is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. Her IU Theatre credits include Hair (Tribe), Happily Ever Chloe (Ensemble), Oklahoma! (Pearl), Parenthesis of Blood (Ramana) and The Wild Party (Cookie). She has also appeared in Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette) for Bloomington's Cardinal Stage Company and in High School Musical (Taylor McKessie) for Music Theatre Louisville. In 2009, Charnette was awarded the National Society of Arts and Letters prize for Musical Theatre. In 2011, she earned the Talent Award and Scholarship in the annual Miss Indiana Pageant.  Charnette is from New Albany, Indiana.

CabaretMatt Birdsong
Matt is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. For IU Theatre he appeared in The Pillowman (Michael), Rent (Mark), A Little Night Music (Henrik), and Blood Brothers (Eddie Lyons). He appeared as Jacey Squires for Indiana Festival Theatre'sThe Music Man and Chip in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Brown County Playhouse. Other credits include the Indiana University Union Board’s production of Cabaret (Herr Schultz), and the University Players’ Spring Awakening (Melchior). Matt is from Brentwood, Tennessee.

CabaretEthan Michael Carpenter
Ethan is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. His IU Theatre credits include Hair (Berger), Anything Goes (Billy Crocker), Rent (Paul), Blood Brothers (Ensemble), and Oklahoma! (Ensemble). He also appeared in West Side Story (Riff) for Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music and in Cabaret (Emcee) for the Union Board. Other credits include Company (Paul) for Hoosier Musicals and My Fair Lady (Freddy), Guys & Dolls (Benny), Happy Days (Potsie), and All Shook Up (Dean) for Montana's Bigfork Summer Playhouse. A 2010 recipient of the J. Marks Scholarship , Ethan is from Effingham, Illinois.

CabaretCosmo Clemens
Cosmo is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. His IU Theatre credits include Anything Goes (Ensemble), Rent (Angel), Oklahoma! (Rick), and The Wild Party (Scat Man). He also appeared in The Music Man (Ensemble) for the Indiana Festival Theatre and West Side Story (Chino) for Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Other credits include the title role in The Wiz at American Cabaret Theatre and numerous appearances for both the Bloomington Playwrights Project and Southern Illinois University's McLeod Summer Playhouse. Cosmo is from Indianapolis, Indiana.

CabaretStephanie Mieko Cohen
Stephanie is a senior B.F.A student in musical theatre. Her IU Theatre credis include Hair (Tribe), Happily Ever Chloe (Chloe), Language of Angels (Celie), Oklahoma! (Florence), and The Wild Party (Harriet). She also appeared in The Music Man (Ensemble) for Indiana Festival Theatre and in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marcy Park) for both Brown County and Millbrook Playhouses. Other credits include IU's University Players, Bloomington Playwrights Project, and the John Waldron Arts Center. A Hutton Honors Scholar and member of the IU Broadway Cabaret, Stephanie is from Calabasas, California.

CabaretRyan Dooley
Ryan is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. For IU Theatre, he has appeared in Anything Goes (Sir Evelyn Oakleigh), Marat/Sade (Duperret), Blood Brothers (Lyons/Conductor), Oklahoma! (Andrew Carnes), and Hamlet (Rosencrantz). He played Charlie Cowell in The Music Man for the Indiana Festival Theatre and Cassius in Julius Caesar for IU’s University Players.  A former member of the IU Broadway Cabaret, Ryan is from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

CabaretNathan Mittleman
Nathan is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre.  His IU Theatre credits includeHair (Dad/Margaret Mead), Anything Goes (Purser), and Rent (Homeless-Faceless), He also appeared in The Music Man (Ensemble) for the Indiana Festival Theatre.  At the Jacobs School of Music he played Luis in West Side Story.  Other credits include Plain and Fancy (Ezra Reber), 42nd Street (Ensemble), and Once Upon a Mattress (Sir Luce) for Indiana's Round Barn Theatre. A member of IU's Singing Hoosiers and the Broadway Cabaret, Nathan is from South Bend, Indiana.

CabaretWilliam Reilly
William is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. For IU Theatre he appeared in Hair (Woof), Rent (Gordon), Oklahoma! (Jess), and Femi Osofisan’s production of Farewell to a Cannibal Rage (Adigun). He has also appeared in The Music Man (Constable Locke) for the Indiana Festival Theatre and in several University Players’ productions. Other credits include William The Last Goodbye (Montague) and Camp Monster (Lou Lagoon) for the Williamstown Theatre Festival. A recipient of a National Society of Arts and Letters Musical Theatre Merit Award, William is from Arlington, Virginia.

Jenna is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. Her IU Theatre credits include Cabaret (Fraulein Kost), Rent (Homeless-Faceless), A Little Night Music (Fredrika), Oklahoma! (Daisy), and the Premiere Musicals production of The Rockae (Maenad). She has also appeared for the American Girl Theatre in Chicago in Circle of Friends as both Samantha and Felicity. A former member of the IU Broadway Cabaret, Jenna is from Northbrook, Illinois.

Hana is a senior B.F.A. student in musical theatre. Her IU Theatre credits include Les Liaisons Dangeureuses (Emilie), Lysistrata (Chorus Leader), Angels in America (Hannah Pitt), A Little Night Music (Petra), Marat/Sade (Rossignol), The Rockae (Lydia), and Oklahoma! (Virginia). Other Bloomington credits include Reasons To Be Pretty (Steph), Cabaret (Kit Kat Girl) at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre, Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical (Lisa) for University Players, and A Year with Frog and Toad for Cardinal Stage Company. A 2010 recipient of the National Society of Arts and Letter Career Award in Musical Theatre, Hana is from Alexandria, Virginia.

George PinneyGeorge Pinney is head of the B.F.A. program in musical theatre. Nominated for a 2001 Tony Award and National Broadway Theatre Award in choreography, George received an Emmy Award for outstanding choreography for the PBS broadcast of Blast! George has directed and/or choreographed over 150 musical theatre productions for international tours, regional playhouses, and university theatres including the IU Theatre’s recent productions of Anything Goes, Rent, A Little Night Music, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The All Night Strut, and The Music Man. A distinguished professor, George has been awarded a Friedrich Herman Lieber Award for Teaching, five Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and membership in the Faculty Colloquium of Excellence in Teaching.

CabaretTerry LaBolt came to IU in 2008 after teaching for more than a decade at University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music. As music director, his Broadway and national touring credits include Sugar Babies (with Ann Miller and Mickey Rooney), Hello, Dolly! (with Carol Channing), George M. (with Joel Grey), and the original 42nd Street. As pianist, he played The Fantasticks Off-Broadway and toured with Aida, Phantom of the Opera, and Mamma Mia! For IU Theatre he was musical director for Anything Goes, Rent, A Little Night Music, Blood Brothers, Oklahoma! and The Wild Partyand conducted The Music Man for Indiana Festival Theatre. Terry has survived twenty-five years of living with AIDS, a liver transplant, and three Loveboat episodes.

CabaretRay Fellman a singer, musical director, and pianist. He has performed lead roles with Florida Grand Opera, New Orleans Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Opera Illinois and been a soloist with the St. Louis Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Chautauqua Symphony and the Champagne-Urbana Symphony. He has received the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation and a career grant from the Anna Sosenko Trust .In New York City, Ray was the musical director for Stephen Schwartz’s Off-Broadway production and national tour of Captain Louie (Little Schubert Theater)as well as a revue of Schwartz’s lesser known works entitled Reluctant Pilgrim (Barrow Group).
