IU BROADWAY CABARET TO PRESENT BENEFIT PERFORMANCE
BLOOMINGTON—Since its inception years ago, members of the IU Broadway Cabaret performance group have gone on to find success on the New York stage, in London's West End, as members of national and international touring companies, and in numerous regional theatres around the country. On Wednesday, May 3 at 7:30 PM the IU Broadway Cabaret will present a performance at the John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium, designed to raise money to support the group's upcoming Chicago Showcase.
The IU Broadway Cabaret is dedicated to musical theatre literature from the beginning of the twentieth century to today, covering a vast range of musical styles and influences. Under the direction of IU Professor of Stage Movement and Musical Theatre George Pinney, a Tony-nominee and Emmy winner for outstanding choreography for the PBS broadcast of Blast!, the Broadway Cabaret was created as a performance outlet for exceptionally talented students in musical theatre. All members intend to pursue a career in the professional world after graduation.
This benefit performance will raise money to help send the IU Broadway Cabaret to Chicago later this year to present a showcase for directors, choreographers, producers, and talent agents from across the country. Traditionally these showcases have provided IU students with outstanding connections and opportunities to further their careers in the American musical theatre.
It is especially fitting that this benefit performance, celebrating the advancement of the careers of musical theatre performers, should follow hot on the heels of the IU Department of Theatre and Drama's production of the classic American musical about the theatre, A Chorus Line. Many performers from A Chorus Line will also appear in the IU Broadway Cabaret presentation. In addition to members of the Broadway Cabaret, three MFA graduate students will present special performances, which can only be seen at this event.
Tickets for the IU Broadway Cabaret performance will be $15.00 for the general public, with a special $6.00 student rate. Tickets are available at the door.
