AFFAIRS OF THE HEART TAKE CENTER STAGE
AT BROWN COUNTY PLAYHOUSE

NASHVILLE, IN—Join us for a perfect autumn evening with this tender, adult comedy about how memories are created. After a one-night stand at a country inn, happily married (but not to one another) George and Doris decide to meet again the next year, and soon they are as committed to their annual weekend together as they are to their own spouses and families. This romantic comedy covers the growth of their friendship and love over the course of a 25-year relationship, and the inevitable changes in their lives and the world around them. Written by Bernard Slade and winner of the 1974-75 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, Same Time, Next Year captures the joy, pain, and humor that typify daily—or annual—human existence.

The closing play of the Brown County Playhouse’s landmark 60th season is directed by the Chair of the IU Department of Theater and Drama, Jonathan Michaelsen, and runs September 26 – October 26. Evening performances begin at 8:00pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 3:00pm. For ticket information, as well as detailed dates and times, please visit theatre.indiana.edu.

When Same Time, Next Year first opened in New York in 1974, it gained numerous accolades, nominations, and awards. Appearing as Doris, the role that won Ellen Burstyn the Tony Award in 1975, is Guest Artist Aarya Sara Locker. Sara has appeared in Proof (Catherine), Five Women Wearing the Same Dress (Trish), Side Man (Terri), Louisa Mae Incest (Louisa Mae Alcott), David (Linda), and Mildred Pierce (Ida Corwin) with Theatre on the Square, as well as in Talley’s Folly (Sally Talley) with the Edyvean Repertory Theatre. Her lover, George, is played by Guest Artist Bill Simmons, who made his Brown County Playhouse debut in Picasso at the Lapin Agile. His other BCP credits include The Foreigner, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Greater Tuna. The chemistry between the two is sure to zing just as much as the dialogue Slade has meticulously crafted. Director Michaelsen has assembled a crack team to build their little love nest: scenic designer Fred Duer, costume designer Alexandra Morphet, lighting designer Ryan J. Davies, and sound designer David Krueger.

What the media already knows about Same Time, Next Year:

The New York Times
“A little victory garden of surprises.”
The San Diego Union-Tribune

“It has such endearing innocence and charm, you simply go with the flow…Delightfully diverting.”
London Daily Mail
