- Facilitate in-class discussion and active learning
- Efficiently combine materials from a variety of sources to reduce class time used to queue up media
D301 and D302 are large-enrollment courses (900+ students a year) that explore the diversity and complexity of the international business environment. Professor Roberto Garcia brings this often difficult material to life with lectures, in-class exercises, and class discussion. Short video clips integrated into his Powerpoint presentations help illustrate important points, provide virtual tours and case studies, and spark discussion.
Professor Garcia has a large collection of teaching materials on videotape but wanted a way to show only the most relevant parts of the videos as well as to integrate them into his lectures, tailoring them to his classroom needs. He "mines" these existing materials and digitizes short clips which he then links into Powerpoint presentations. Linking the clips so they can be lauched at any time and having the ability to easily pause and replay provides Professor Garcia with much more flexibility than either traditional videotapes or simple Powerpoint presentations alone.
This project was initially supported by a 1999 ISS Active Learning Grant and has received ongoing support from TLTC and the Kelley School of Business.
