Dr. Mark Braun wanted to provide his pathology students with the opportunity to study annotated microscope slides outside of the laboratory. He wanted to highlight certain structures and give the students easy access to written descriptions of the slides. While illustrated pathology textbooks and other reference materials are available, they are expensive and they don't feature the exact specimens that are found in the students' slide boxes in the laboratory This project began in 1995 and has undergone several iterations. In the most recent additions to this project, Dr. Braun has created case studies for his students to explore. These studies help students get real world exposure to problems and issues they will face as physicians. In 2002, Dr. Braun's work was recognized with an Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education (IPSE) Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology. Read more about this award in the IU Home Pages.
After entering the web site, students select the unit they wish to study. Students can also take a brief quiz at any time during their review of the annotated slides and case studies.
Dr. Braun has also created a lab manual that includes the images and the text for the slides. Students use the manual in class and outside class when reviewing the slides.
