Traditions & Cultures of IU

Format: Website

Instructional goals:

  • encourages active learning
  • learning activities give prompt feedback
  • promotes critical thinking

X112 uses the distinctive history of Indiana University to encourage students to engage thoughtfully with questions posed on the screens. Traditions & Cultures also helps freshmen develop the skills they'll need to succeed in other IU courses: reading and summarizing, thinking critically about information, harnessing evidence to support an assertion, understanding the research methods and reasoning used in different disciplines; learning terminology used in most universities; connecting ideas across units; moving from the particular to the general, and vice versa; studying from the www; and preparing for quizzes and exams. Read more about X112 and its delivery in the ISS September Newsletter.
