MISSION
 

TENNIS CENTER HISTORY

The Tennis Center facility opened its doors in December 1984 and was built by a private entrepreneur for profit on University property.  The original name of the facility was Campus Tennis Corporation.  In the spring of 1985, the Division of Recreational Sports was asked to assist the private owner with the management of the facility.  In1986, private management and ownership filed bankruptcy and closed.  In 1987, the University purchased the facility from Monroe County Bank and the Division of Recreational Sports was asked to manage the facility and reported to an independent advisory board.  It was then renamed the I.U. Tennis Pavilion. Due to the construction of the Mellancamp Pavilion in 1997, the University felt it best not to have two "Pavilions" so close in proximity, so the Tennis Pavilion was then renamed the I.U. Tennis Center.

GOALS
 

1. Deliver quality tennis programs to meet the needs of a very diverse membership.
    
2. Maintain a high standard of safety to protect members from injury and hardship.
    
3. Provide excellent customer service and friendliness to all members. 
   
   
4. Deliver  an efficient operational system to accommodate member’s needs and interests.
    
5. Provide administrative support, supervision and coordination to facilitate the overall success of the Tennis Center. 
   
   
6. Strive to provide the best facilities and equipment, along with the most comfortable environment. 
   
   
7. Provide learning and professional training for all instructors aspiring for a career in the tennis industry. 
   
   
8. Provide a cooperative and well coordinated system with the IU Varsity Tennis Teams, as well as other interest groups. 

INSTRUCTIONALTENNIS
 

The IUTC offers private and semi-private lessons, group lessons and clinics. All lesson inquires should be directed to the Head Pro, Mike O’Connell at mfoconne@indiana.edu, or 855-5750.

I.U. VARSITY TENNIS
 

The Tennis Center works closely with the IU Athletic Department and Men’s and Women’s Varsity Tennis teams. Practices and matches are held outside on the Varsity Tennis Courts and inside the Tennis Center. Court adjustments may occur to meet their needs and we look to the members for their support and cooperation.
