MIKE O’CONNELL

Highlights: USPTA Indiana Pro of the Year-1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1997, USPTA Midwest Hall of Fame, USPTA President and Vice President.....

Mike is our Head Professional and a USPTA Master Professional.  Only 1% of teaching professionals reach this level of achievement.

Mike has been ranked as high as Nationally in singles and doubles and has coached several students with National rankings and hundreds with Midwest rankings.

Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland City College where be played tennis and basketball.  Mike also earned his Master of Science degree from Troy State University while he served in the United States Air Force for four years in Europe.  He has coached two championship Air Force Teams and won two German titles.

Mike was named USPTA Indiana Pro of the Year in 1982, 83, 84, 85, and 1997.  In 1998 Mike was inducted into the USPTA Midwest Hall of Fame. Mike has served on the Indiana USPTA Board as President and Vice President.  Mike has had several tennis articles and tennis tips published in Tennis Magazine, USPTA National Advantage Magazine and USPTA Midwest Tennis Connection. He has been a presenter and speaker at the USPTA National Convention, Midwest Convention and the Indiana High School Coaches Convention.  Mike was the Tennis Director at French Lick Springs Resort for 15 years before coming to the IU Tennis Center in 1992.

 

CHRIS CHOPRA

Assistant Pro & Junior Program Coordinator

IUTC Employee Since: October 2000
Highlights: 2006 USPTA Indiana Pro of the Year, USPTA Tennis Ambassador

Chris directs the Junior Programs and assists with the Training Program for Career Professionals Program.

Chris is a USPTA Level 1 certified teaching professional and completed the Indiana University Tennis Training for Career Professionals Program administered by Master Professional Mike O'Connell.

He is a graduate of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business with a concentration in Finance.

In 2006, he was named the Indiana Tennis Professional of the Year by the USPTA, and will serve as President of the USPTA for the state of Indiana from 2008-2010. In 2008 Chris was named a Tennis

 Ambassador for the USPTA where he will work on growing the game of tennis and promoting the USPTA brand.  Chris also serves on the USTA CITA Junior Team Tennis Committee. Chris is a member of the

JUSTIN OVERMYER

Staff Pro & Adult Program Coordinator

Highlights: Head coach of both boy’s and girl’s tennis at Burris/Indiana Prep school in 2000

Justin is the Adult Program Coordinator at the Staff Pro level and assists with the Training Program for Career Professionals Program.

Justin has completed the Indiana University Tennis Training for Career Professionals Program administered by Master Professional Mike O'Connell.

Justin is from Muncie, IN and started playing tennis his freshman year at Delta High School.  He played doubles all four years and lettered in his last two, earning all-state honorable mention his senior year.

In the spring of 2000, Justin became the head coach of both boys and girls tennis at Burris/Indiana Academy Prep school.  While coaching until spring of 2005, Justin attended Ball State University, taught lessons at the Muncie YMCA, and  re-strung racquets for Ball State University’s men’s and women’s teams. 


 

ADMINISTRATIVE

 

Rebecca A. Worland, Assistant Director, Operations.

Rebecca has been involved with Indiana University for almost thirteen years. Rebecca has a B.S. in Applied Health Science from IU-Bloomington and three years of University Human Resources experience.   She first became a part of the IUTC team in 1997, when she worked as a receptionist at the Control Center while in school.  She is currently preparing for her GRE and plans to attend Graduate school Fall 2009. 


Donna Beyers, Assistant Director, Business Affairs.

Donna began her career at Indiana University in 1981 and transferred to the IUTC in 1994.  She serves as the assistant to the director and is responsible for overseeing the departmental functions, implementing policies, overseeing the financial records, and providing administrative support to the staff.
