What is the Artist Directory?

The TAI Artist Directory is a listing of individual traditional artists and groups living in Indiana who are interested in public performance, demonstration, or marketing opportunities.

Traditional Arts Indiana identifies arts that are...

  • Primarily learned informally from someone within the artist's community
  • Firmly a part of the artist's own ethnic or religious community, region or occupation
  • Living and contemporary -- not revived or re-enacted.

Teachers, museum educators, arts organizations, festival planners, tourism professionals, etc. across the state can search for Indianaís traditional artists. The directory will continue to grow over time so be sure to re-visit the directory in the future.

Artists listed in the directory have not been juried. If you have questions, please contact TAI directly at tradarts@indiana.edu or call our office at 812/855-0418.

Who may apply?

Any individual traditional artist who is a resident of Indiana and any group with a number of members residing in Indiana.

Review Criteria

Applicants are accepted to the directory based on the traditionality of their work. Please read more about TAIís definition of traditional artists before applying. In some cases, it may be more appropriate for an artist to be listed in the www.indianaarts.org directory, a state-wide general artist listing.

How to apply?

Print and fill out a paper copy of the artist directory application or call our office at 812/855-0418 and we will send you an application. A committee will then review your application.

Timeline:

We will accept applications throughout the year. The review takes between two and three months from the time the application is submitted.
