In October of 1932, Arcadia farmer Lester Nance traded pig feed for a seven-month old black and white hound “White River King”—named after the White River bottoms where Nance did most of his hunting. This pup proved to be an exceptional hunting dog and became the foundation for Nance’s development of a nationally recognized and registered breed—the Treeing Walker Coon Hound.
