"Concerto No . 1" (in one movement) by Alexey Lebedev (1924-1993)

Lebedev studied tuba with the famous Russian trombonist Vladislav Blazhevich and enjoyed a long career performing with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and teaching at the Moscow Conservatory. His two concertos are standards in both the tuba and bass trombone repertoire.

Carl notes, "A classic in the bass trombone repertoire.  I especially enjoyed exploring, discovering and claiming ownership of the beautiful phrases.  On a technical note, I found that I had to tongue almost all legato (as opposed to using the natural breaks of the instrument) in order to dose the air in a way to achieve the long phrases.  And - a little 'senior moment' at the very end (see note in Wilder I)"
