Trombone Choir

Director - Carl Lenthe

The Sunday Bloomington Herald-Times has noted:

"...Lenthe not only had put together an interesting and pleasant program, but he had molded the players into a unit, finalizing his tutelage with a conducting technique of clear signals...", "...a nicely realized concert.", "...the trombone as an instrument worthy of note.", "...expressive items swinging gingerly between old-fashioned and new-fangled musical styles, the program held points of interest.", "...resoundingly well-played.", "...the choir of trombones surprisingly approximated the qualities of human voices.", and "...a fun program."

The Indiana Daily Student wrote:

"...and already the idea of delighting peoples' ears was in place as the IU Trombone Choir under Director Carl Lenthe made the sounds with their wonderful brass."

Information

Spring 2009

Spring 2009 will be an octet semester with a focus on Bach transcritions.

Rehearsals are most Wednesdays at 4-6pm in MA452 with occasional special rehearsals. Members are expected to participate in all rehearsals leading up to the each performance.

Expectations of Ensemble members include:

- Prompt enrollment in Trombone Choir in the appropriate section (upon authorization).
- A positive, constructive ensemble attitude
- Professional conduct
- Preparation for rehearsals, as necessary
- Timely arrival at rehearsals, being ready to play at the assigned time
- Reliable participation in concerts and other scheduled events
- Responsible use of printed materials

Absence from rehearsal must be approved in advance, and an adequate substitute arranged with Prof. Lenthe. Each unexcused rehearsal absence will result in a grade reduction.

Enrollment Possibilities

Following a successful audition, you will receive authorization to enroll in trombone choir. Please read the following two options for course enrollment:

1) Normal participation in trombone choir is as X420 Small Ensemble (Spring 2009, Class Number 9719). Participation is for one credit hour, but - similar to X040 Large Ensembles - no fees are charged.  If your degree program requires no chamber music credits, this is the enrollment option for you.

2) There is also the possibility to use your participation in this ensemble as F450/550 chamber music credit. In that case, you must enroll in either F450 (undergraduate, Spring 2009 Class Number 8970), or F550 (graduate, Spring 2009 Class Number 8980). This is not a free credit, but can count as one of your required chamber music credits (if applicable). Undergraduate students may earn up to two semesters of chamber credit through this section, graduate students one semester.
