Teaching:

Activities as trombone teacher began in 1969 (at age 12!), instructing beginning 9-years-old within the public school music program. Teaching individual trombone lessons later became a regular part of professional life, utilizing the time afforded around the orchestra schedule. An eclectic mixture of students ranged from beginners on trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba, through high school students with serious musical ambition, to already established professionals, and included many adult amateurs as well. Orchestra tours provided further opportunity to teach students in Japan, South America, and elsewhere.

Before embracing a full-time teaching career in 1998, institution-affiliated teaching included a prolonged interaction (1988-94) with the music corps of both the National Guard and the State Police of Bavaria, as well as a one-month sabbatical substitution at Indiana University (April 1995).
