NEBO RIDGE

This hike takes us through a beautifully forested portion of the Hoosier National Forest in Brown County. The trail ascends gradually from the north trailhead near the abandoned town of Elkinsville and follows a ridge top until descending to the south trailhead near the village of Houston. Although the 8.6 mile length may sound daunting, the trail is relatively easy with only one major ascent. We will need to park a car at either end of the trail, so this hike is limited by the seven-person capacity of a mini-van.

Time: Carpool from Bloomingfoods/K-mart parking lot on Bloomington's east side at 8:00 a.m.
Distance: 8.6 miles
Estimated Hiking Time: 4 hour
Difficluty: Moderate to strenuous (because of length)

WALDRIP HOUSE

Around 1877, Joshua Waldrip built a cabin on 30 acres, near what is now Lake Monroe. Cathy Meyer, Monroe County Parks & Recreation Naturalist, will help find evidence of this family farm and tell the story of what was.

Time:  Leave at 9:00 a.m. from Bloomingfoods/Kmart parking lot, east side, near east/west dividing road.
Estimated Hiking Time: 2-3 hours
Estimated Hiking Time: 2 hours Distance:  4 miles
