June 2013 Dear University Club Members and Friends, First of all, I would like to introduce myself to the club, for those who have not had the pleasure, or displeasure if you will, of meeting me. I joined the club fairly recently, after attending a luncheon during which the former IMU Chef Mangan demonstrated some dishes that we then got to eat. At that luncheon, I discovered that some of my friends from Master Gardeners were members of the University Club and they encouraged me to become a member of the club. I had no idea I could join as I was not affiliated with the university other than paying them obscene amounts of money for both of my children to get their degrees from IU. Obviously I decided to join, since I am now the President, and I have never looked back. But who am I? I ask myself that every day. Someday I may figure that out. But for now, I am a writer, an artist, a photographer. Too bad no one pays me for these things. Yet. And just in case you are interested, my oldest child, Kevin, graduated with a degree in Computer Sciences. He now lives with his wife and son in Fishers, IN. He works as a computer programmer at a company in Carmel. My daughter, Kelley, is also a member of the club and a recent graduate of IU. She got her degree in Sport Marketing and Management with minors in Coaching, Business, and Psychology. Kelley currently lives at home and is working part-time at the ticket office at IU. My husband is the Chief Financial Officer at the Peoples State Bank in Ellettsville. He has been working there since 1997 and we have been living in Bloomington since 1998. And now on to the business of the club. My main goal for this year is to increase membership. I have in my brief few years, brought in one new member as well as my husband and daughter. Now, I challenge each and every one of you to bring in someone new to our club. It's very simple, really. Start by inviting someone you know to an event using the Be Our Guest program. Your guest, if they have never been a member of the UClub, can enjoy certain events for free! Please see the write-up in the newsletter for more information on this program. My hope is that every member will bring in one new member in this coming year. Let.s see if we can't make that a reality. I believe in us. Marilyn Brinley
