Meadowood Trips

All University Club members are
welcome to participate in all Meadowood trips..

The following trips are being offered to University Club members and their guests. Contact the University Club office at 855-1325 or All reservations and payments MUST be made prior to the trips. Checks are to be made out to the University Club. All trips depart and return to the Circle Drive at Meadowood.

Meadowood's Outings for April - October!

Men's Breakfast to Canyon Inn at McCormick's Creek
•Tuesday, April 7 • Departs 8:00 a.m. •

Join the men of Meadowood on a jaunt to Owen County for breakfast at the rustic Canyon Inn. Bring $2 for park admission and buy your own breakfast.

Women's Lunch to Hummingbird Heaven Tea Room in Martinsville
•Wednesday, April 8 • Departs 11:00 a.m.•

Located in the Old Jail in Martinsville, this tea room has long been a favorite of Meadowood ladies. Unfortunately, they will close July 3,so this will be our last opportunity to sample the delicious soups, corn muffins and hummingbird cake. Join us just for the price of lunch.

Boggstown Cabaret
•Thursday, April 16 • Departs 8:30 a.m.•

The Boggstown Cabaret offers unique, live entertainment, featuring music from the 1900s-1960s, comedy and audience interaction all performed by professional entertainers. They borrow from the traditions of Vaudeville, a little from Vegas and Branson, a bit of Broadway, and come up with a fun interactive show. Price includes a lunch of slow roasted pot roast, baked potato, vegetable, slaw, fried biscuits and apple butter, dessert, tea or coffee. Price is $50 for UClub members and $52 for non-members.

Land of Lincoln Tour
•May 12-13 • Departs 7:00 a.m.•

We will visit the Lincoln Presidential Museum, the Lincoln Home Visitor's Center and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, a restored four-block neighborhood with a quaint, Quaker-brown residence - the only home Lincoln ever owned - and the home of the Lincoln family for 17 years (1844-1861) - as its centerpiece. We will also visit the Old State Capital, attend a special Civil War Retreat ceremony at the Lincoln Tomb, tour the Executive Mansion (home of seven former U.S. Presidents), the Dana Thomas Home (Frank Lloyd Wright Home) and visit New Salem State Park, a living history pioneer village that will take us back to Lincoln's life in the 1830's.

Overnight accommodation at the Hampton Inn, price of $164 for UClub members and $166 for non-members includes transportation, escort, snacks and beverages on the bus, breakfast and all tours. Lunches and dinners will be charged back.

Day at the Races
•Sunday, June 7 • Departs 9:30 a.m.•

Experience the thrill of thoroughbred horse racing from the luxury of Millionaire's Row on the fourth floor of the Sky Terrace, and enjoys the delicious Chef's Table buffet. Trip includes coffee, pastries and Bloody Marys at 9:00 a.m. in the Terrace Room at Meadowood before departure; track admission, racing form, buffet and afternoon refresh at Churchill Downs; and wine and snacks during the return trip. Price is $65 for UClub members and $67 for non-members.

The Lincoln Experience
• Thursday, June 18 • Departs TBA •

We will visit the Buffalo Run Farm, located on property where Lincoln's cousin, Dennis Hanks, once lived; and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, which is the site where Lincoln grew up. It is the first National Park established in Indiana and features two memorial halls, a museum with a variety of exhibits and a 15-minute film. We will visit Colonel Jones Home, a restored 1834 Federal-design home of the merchant employer of Abraham Lincoln; and the Lincoln Pioneer Village. We will have dinner and see the play LINCOLN at the new Lincoln Amphitheatre, which will include an Amish family style meal, artisans on site, Lincoln archives, and a theatrical play about his life. During intermission we will have free, unlimited soft drinks and popcorn. Return around 11:30 p.m. Price of $60 for UClub members and $62 for non-members includes transportation, escort, all tours, and dinner show.

Picnic with the Pops
• Saturday, June 27 • Departs 7:00 p.m. •

Take the Meadowood coach to the Bloomington Independence Day tradition. The concert begins with the children's parade, a militarycolor guard and salute to our armed forces and ends with a rousing performance of the 1812 Overture complete with cannons and afireworks finale. Price of $30 for UClub members and $32 for non-members and includes table seating, snacks, desserts, beer, wine andsoft drinks.

Baseball Outing in Indianapolis
• Wednesday, July 22 • Departs 10:00 a.m. •

Recognized as the "Best Minor League Ballpark in America" by prominent publications such as Baseball America and Sports Illustrated,Victory Field offers a spectacular view of the Indianapolis skyline. The $20 million facility boasts many unique features including an open concourse that offers a great view of the playing field throughout the ballpark. The Indians is the Triple-A affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates; we will see them host the Columbus Clippers after a lunch at Shapiro's. Cost is $30 for UClub members and $32 for non-members for transportation, park admission and snacks on the bus. Bring money for lunch and snacks at the ballpark.

IU Day at the State Fair
• Date TBA • Departs 10:00 a.m. •

Visit the IU exhibits on State Fair Boulevard and wander at your leisure through the commercial buildings, the art and photography exhibits, the livestock barns, Pioneer Village, and other pavilions. Lunch and snacks are on your own. Cost of $25 for UClub membersand $27 for non-members includes admission, transportation, snacks and beverages on the way home. Return around 5:00 p.m.

Symphony on the Prairie
• Saturday, August 29 • Departs 5:00 p.m. •

Glen Miller was one of the most successful of all the dance band leaders back in the swing era of the 1930s and 40s. This extravaganza includes all the great "big band" hits of the legendary Glen Miller Orchestra, as well as the great vocals. The 19-member band continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements that keep exciting fans who have not heard them played for a while. Price is $50 for UClub members and $52 for non-members and includes table seating, transportation, escort, picnic supper, wine, beer and soft drinks. Return to Meadowood around 11:30 p.m.

Coachlight Theatre, Nashville, IN

Hollywood Serenade: step back in time to a radio musical program from the mid-40s. $28 UClub members; $30 non-members Shawnee Theater, Bloomfield, IN o Sunday, June 28 o Departs 1:00 p.m. A Streetcar Named Desire: Set against the steamy backdrop of New Orleans' gritty French Quarter, Tennessee Williams's 1947 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama tells the story of Blanche Dubois, a faded Southern belle driven to madness by her animalistic brother-in-law, Stanley. $25 UClub members; $27 non-members

Shawnee Theater, Bloomfield, IN
• Sunday, July 5 • Departs 1:00 p.m. •

The Last Five Years: The story explores a five-year marriage between Jamie, a rising novelist, and Cathy, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Cathy travels backwards in time (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie travels forwards (starting just after the couple's first meeting). The two characters intersect in time at their wedding in the middle of the show. $25 UClub members; $27 non-members

The Last Night of Ballyhoo: The finale of the season will be the hit comedy Last Night of Ballyhoo by Alfred Uhry, the man who penned Driving Miss Daisy. This heartwarming comedy takes a look at what makes a community, and the silly things that may divide it. $25 UClub members; $27 non-members

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: Adam's six younger brothers are eager to do what he's done - find themselves a bride! When they each choose women who are spoken for they decide to take matters into their own hands and kidnap their loves! Beef & Boards, Indianapolis

Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: What is the favorite son of Jacob to do when his jealous brothers destroy his beautiful multi-colored coat and sell him into slavery? As Joseph finds out, "Any Dream Will Do." Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's biblicallybased musical is a theatre-goers' treat. $60 UClub members; $62 non-members

• April 17-25, 2009 • Departs 7:30 a.m. on the Meadowood Coach (bus travel) •

This trip is steeped in southern charm. The first stop is Ashville, NC (one night) for a guided tour of the historic Biltmore Estate. Then it's on to Charleston (four nights), where you will take the Charleston City Tour, visit Middleton Place, Nathaniel-Russell House, Calhoun Mansion, Gibbs Museum of Art, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, Edmundston-Alton Home, City Market, and Boone Hall Plantation. In addition, you will take the ferry to the Charleston Harbor/Fort Sumter Tour, the Charleston Tea Plantation Tour, and on Jekyll Island you will tour the Hotel and take the Historic District tram tour. Two full days will be spent in Savannah, where you will see the Savannah History Museum, the Mercer Williams House, take the Savannah City Tour, and see the Owens-Thomas House and Museum. The final day will be spent in Beaufort, SC for the Beaufort Trolley tour and the Gullah Tour on nearby St. Helena Island. Trip price: $1,605 double and $2,405 single and includes Meadowood motor coach transportation, 9 nights lodging, 9 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 19 tours including tour guides, tips and escort. Additional meals will be charged back.

• June 11 or 12-14, 2009 • Departs 7:00 a.m. on the Meadowood Coach (bus travel) •

Take the Architecture River Cruise, see the Sears Tower Skydeck, Chicago Cultural Center, Historical Theatre Tour, Art Institute, a Broadway show, and choose the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, and/or Planetarium on your CityPass. We will be staying at the Palmer House Hilton. This trip is still being planned, so price is TBA. • September 18-20, 2009 • Departs 7:00 a.m. on the Meadowood Coach (bus travel) •

Visit the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Historic Quaker Oats Square, Kingwood Center & Gardens and Robert Rothschild Farms and of course the IU-Akron Football Game. Price includes: Meadowood motor coach transportation, 2 nights lodging, 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch, admission to all the above mentioned attractions & tours, IU ticket, and snacks/drinks on bus. Trip price: $345.00 per person based on double or $455.00 single. Deposit $50.00. Final payment is due by August 28. Any cancellation before July 18, a full refund will be given less deposit. Insurance is $75.00 per person which covers the cost of the entire trip.

• October 18-22, 2009 • Departs 8:00 a.m. for Indianapolis Airport (air travel) •

Includes Hemingway Home Tour, Conch Train Tour, Bright Point Historic Seaport, Sunset Cruise, Pigeon Key Tour, Sunset at Mallory Square, Tour of Harry S. Truman Little White House, Audubon House Tour, Tour of the Old Custom House, Mel Fischer Maritime Museum, Trip includes: baggage assistance, escort, lodging, 3 Breakfasts, 10 tours/attractions. We will travel to Miami by air and then to and from Key West by van. Clothing is casual, all meals casual and the entire trip is laid back!
