Phyllis Biggs Piel, 82

APRIL 3, 1926—APRIL 22, 2008

Phyllis Biggs Piel, PhD., of Bloomington passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Bloomington Hospital. She was 82 years old.

Born April 3, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Dr. Alfred DeBard Biggs Sr. and Nishime (Sprague) Biggs.

Phyllis was a graduate of University of Colorado and earned her doctorate from the University of Missouri. She retired from Indiana University, where she was a director with the Center on Aging and Community. She was a volunteer for Bloomington Hospital Hospice, the University Club, the Gourmet Club, Book Circulating Club and a supporter of Indiana Arts, Music and Theatre.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Bill Piel of Bloomington; her children, David Kultgen and his wife Candy of Austin, TX, John Kultgen and his wife Peggy of Overland Park, KS, Mary Callison and her husband Larry of Monroe, LA, Rebecca Miltenberger and her husband Chris of South Lake, TX and Michael Kultgen and his wife Amy of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister, Elaine Dempesy of Clarendon Hills, IL; one brother Dr. Alfred DeBard Biggs Jr. and his wife Ruth of Leawood, KS; fourteen grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Center with Father Rich Litzau officiating.
