Animal Licensing and Restraint

Several animal-related city ordinances apply to you and your pets. Two of the most important relate to licensing and restraint.

Licensing

Any person owning or caring for a dog or cat more than six months old must obtain a license. Annual license fees are $7 for an unaltered dog or cat and $2 for each altered animal. You can apply for a license at the Animal Shelter/Control Department (3410 Old S.R. 37 South, 349-3492). A current rabies certificate issued by a veterinarian is required at the time of application. A license tag will be issued, and the animal must wear the tag at all times.

Restraint

All animals (except licensed cats that have been neutered or spayed) must be kept under restraint at all times. Failure to do so can result in fines ranging from $20 to $150.
