Step 5: Understand the Big Picture at Indiana University Bloomington

Congratulations! You’ve been working toward admission to a college or university for many years. We at University Division invite you to take a moment to reflect on this accomplishment. You are starting an exciting new phase in your education, one that stems from choice rather than a requirement, and you will want to be prepared to make the most of your time here.

It is not too early to begin the process of deepening your understanding of IUB and what the realm of higher education has to offer you. If you actively participate in your undergraduate studies from the start, you will find that IUB offers you myriad opportunities to hone the skills you need to succeed in many aspects of life as well as in your chosen occupation(s).

Why pursue a bachelor’s degree at IUB?

What kind of school is IUB? How is it organized?

What is University Division? Why do I start here?

How do I gain admission to the school at IUB that offers the major that is best for me?

What are the degree requirements that I must meet to graduate?

What offices at IUB are most important for me to get to know?

We hope this overview has helped you to understand important components of IUB and how these relate to you as a new student. For further questions regarding classes, requirements, programs (or majors), or general help navigating the IUB systems, please do not hesitate to contact a University Division advisor.
