How Do University Division Advisors Support Students?

Advisors help students explore IU’s many academic options, find campus/community resources and services, and make a successful transition from high school to college. During individual conference and/or group meetings, students can expect assistance with any of the items listed below.

Information about Schools/Majors/Careers
  • Obtaining/interpreting school bulletins and requirement sheets
  • Exploring majors in order to select one that is appropriate for their interests
  • Learning requirements for any major(s) and minor(s) that they may be considering
  • Exploring careers related to their chosen or potential major(s)
  • Learning about/using advising resources on computer, e.g., the Schedule of Classes, the OneStart portal to the SIS (Student Information System), Degree Progress Report.
