Registering for Courses at IU Bloomington
Students who are admitted to IU Bloomington receive
information about scheduling their initial orientation, advising, and
registration sessions from the Office of Orientation Programs. For each academic session (fall, spring, summer) the
registrar’s office assigns a specific registration time for each
student who is currently attending IU Bloomington. University Division
freshmen should make an appointment to see their assigned advisors in
order to plan an academic program and be released to register for
courses each semester. After completion of their first year, UD
students should continue to see an advisor for planning purposes. Freshmen who do not see their advisors during the
semester, or any student who fails to maintain good academic standing,
may be placed on a checklist and be denied registration privileges
until advising and/or academic requirements are fulfilled. Students register for courses and make schedule
adjustments via OneStart through the first week of the semester. They
may register at the registration center in Franklin Hall, many computer
clusters on campus, or on a personal computer that has an appropriate Web browser. Students can request
to be placed on a waitlist for almost any course or section they desire
but find closed when registering. Schedule adjustments made during the first two working
days after the initial registration session for the semester are free.
After two days, any session that results in change will incur a fee
that is added to the student’s bursar bill.
