DROP/ADD:

University Division students are advised to speak with a University Division Academic Advisor or Affiliated Academic Advisor before initiating any class schedule adjustment.

If you intend to drop or add classes, it is important that you review the information posted on http://www.indiana.edu/~udiv/drop_add_procedures.html and http://www.indiana.edu/~udiv/drop_add_cautions.html

You are able to adjust your enrollment from your Student Center on OneStart through the first week of classes only.

After the first week of classes, click on the “eDrop/eAdd Classes” link on your OneStart Self-Service page in the Services & Information box to initiate schedule adjustments or see an academic advisor to pick up a paper version of the Late Drop/Add request form.

AUTO-W DEADLINES:
You will receive an automatic W (which will not impact your GPA) if you drop a class before its Auto-W Deadline.

Auto-W Deadline for First Eight-Week Session:  Wednesday, February 6th

Auto-W Deadline for Full Term classes:  Wednesday, March 5th

Auto-W Deadline for Second Eight-Week Session:  Tuesday, April 8th

After the relevant Auto-W Deadline, you must provide documentation of an extended illness or equivalent distress in order to petition University Division for permission to drop a class. If you are allowed to drop a class after its Auto-W Deadline, an automatic W is not guaranteed.  Academic difficulty alone is NOT sufficient reason for withdrawal from a class after its Auto-W Deadline.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE PLACEMENT/CREDIT EXAMS:
Foreign Language Placement/Credit exams are currently being scheduled.  If you need/want to take a placement exam in French, German, Italian, Latin, or Spanish, call Evaluation Services & Testing at 855-1595 to schedule an appointment.

MIDTERM GRADES:
If you have completed fewer than 56 credit hours, you can view your midterm grades (beginning in the afternoon on March 6th) online at http://midterm-grades.indiana.edu.  Access to your midterm grades requires your username and password. Midterm grades are not official, but they deserve your attention.  If your midterm grades are lower than you expect, you should immediately discuss them and any course concerns you have with your instructors.  You should also discuss your grades and overall academic performance with your academic advisor in an advising conference.  Your academic advisor receives a copy of your midterm grades and is able to provide suggestions and referrals for academic support.

SUMMER SCHOOL ISSUES:
Talk with an academic advisor before you register for any summer courses.  It’s important to understand policies and procedures related to transferring credit and to consider the applicability of any courses you intend to take to your academic program.

Registration for summer classes offered on the IU Bloomington campus takes place in March. Continuing students receive information from the IUB Office of the Registrar on summer term registration dates and procedures. If you intend to enroll in summer courses at another institution, contact that institution for information about its deadlines and procedures for enrolling.

Grades earned during the summer at IU Bloomington or any other IU campus will be included in the calculation of your IU GPA.  Although grades earned at schools outside the IU system will not be included in your IU GPA, credits may transfer for courses completed with a grade of C or higher.  The following website provides detailed information on transferring credit to IU Bloomington:   http://www.indiana.edu/~iuadmit/transfer/tc_credit.shtml.   To determine if specific courses will transfer to IU Bloomington, visit the Office of Admission’s Credit Transfer Service website: http://cts.admissions.indiana.edu/index.cfm

REGISTERING FOR FALL CLASSES:
Registration for fall semester classes will occur in April.  It is your responsibility to engage in a thorough and thoughtful assessment of your academic progress and goals before you enroll in classes.  Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss your current status and plans before you attempt to enroll.

REGISTRATION APPOINTMENTS FOR FALL TERM:
Your registration appointment is assigned by the Office of the Registrar and is the earliest day/time that you can access the registration system. You can view your registration appointment by clicking on the Open Enrollment Dates link in your Student Center. .

Your registration appointment is assigned by the Office of the Registrar and is the earliest day/time that you can access the enrollment system on OneStart.  To view your registration appointment time, click on the Self-Service tab on OneStart, and click on “Registration Appointment” under the “Registration & Classes” section.

ADVISING APPOINTMENTS:
All University Division students should see an advisor for a significant discussion of their academic and course enrollment plans BEFORE enrolling in classes.

Because there are a limited number of advising appointments available later in the semester, schedule an appointment early to discuss you plans for spring enrollment with an advisor.

TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT:
  • Review any advising documents or curricular materials you have received
  • Review admission and degree requirements associated with your academic plan (major).
  • View the on-line Schedule of Classes to determine which courses will be offered.  Use the Search for Classes button in your Student Center to access the schedule.
  • View bulletins and/or http://www.iub.edu/~deanfac/class.html for course descriptions.
  • Make a list of 10-15 courses you are considering and take it with you to your scheduled advising appointment.
HOLDS ON YOUR RECORD:
It is important to check for Holds on your record before you attempt to enroll in classes.  Review these in the Holds box in your Student Center.  Read any information listed carefully.  You will need to contact the offices listed to discuss the requirements for having a Hold removed.

ADVISING HOLDS:
University Division freshmen have an Advising Hold automatically placed on their record each semester. An Advising Hold will be removed by an advisor when there is clear evidence of thoughtful academic preparation.

PROBATION HOLDS:
University Division students on academic probation have a Probation Hold automatically placed on their record. If you are a University Division student on academic probation, you must make and attend an appointment with your assigned advisor to discuss your academic progress and your academic plans before your Probation Hold can be removed. Students on probation who do not sign a Phoenix Program Contract or fail to meet probation contract terms will not be released during Early Registration, but will be released, if they are then eligible, after semester grades are final and records have been reviewed (approximately the last week of May or the first week of June).

PERMISSIONS:
Permission is required to enroll in some courses.  If you are attempting to enroll in a course listed in the online Schedule of Classes with the statement “Department Consent Required,” you will need to contact the department offering the course to request Permission to enroll.

COURSES TAUGHT IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS:
If you live in a residence hall, see the Residential Education courses listed in the Office of the Registrar’s online Schedule of Classes (click on Special Course Listings at http://registrar.indiana.edu/~registra/stu_registration.shtml). These classes meet in convenient locations and give you the opportunity to meet other students living near you.

WAITLISTS:
If a course you need/want to take is closed when you attempt to enroll in it, you can put yourself on a waitlist for the course.

Call 855-8200 during normal business hours or email reghelp@indiana.edu if you need further assistance to set up a waitlist.

MONITORING YOUR COURSE ENROLLMENT:
You are responsible for monitoring your Class Schedule.  Once you have registered for classes, you can view your Class Schedule on OneStart in your Student Center.

FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE:
It is your responsibility to avoid final examination conflicts. Before registering for classes, view the Final Examination Schedule printed in the Enrollment and Student Academic Information Bulletin for the appropriate term.
