Applying to Optometry School

There is no centralized process for applying to optometry schools, so applicants submit their applications directly to the individual schools. Some optometry schools have paper applications that must be requested from them, but others have electronic online applications. As part of the application, applicants are asked to write a personal statement, and in some cases, to write several essays on various topics related to their goals in attending optometry school and pursuing a career as an optometrist. In addition, schools will require that applicants submit OAT scores, transcripts from all institutions attended, and letters of recommendation as part of their applications.

Applicants may find instructions on applying to the Indiana University School of Optometry (O.D.) program and the online application at the School's website.

Information on obtaining applications for other optometry schools can be obtained through the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry website.

Students may request information from multiple schools by using the following webform from their website.
