Birth or Adoption of a Child

The birth or adoption of a child will allow you to make changes to your benefit plans outside of Open Enrollment.

To make changes to any of the plans listed immediately below, you will need to
complete the Change of Status form and the subsequent personalized benefit enrollment form. Step-by-step instructions appear on the respective plan pages below. You must make the change within 30 days of the birth or adoption.

Note regarding newborn coverage:

• Documentation (birth certificate or custody/adoption order) will be required.
• Coverage stops after 31 days unless the newborn is added to the plan.

 

Dental plan

• Add your child to your IU dental plan.
• Add coverage (HIPAA special enrollment rights)

Medical plan

• Add your child to your IU medical plan.
• Add coverage (HIPAA special enrollment rights)

Personal Accident Insurance plan

• Add or drop coverage.
• Increase or decrease your coverage between employee and family.

Tax Saver Benefit

Health Care:

• Add or increase election.

Dependent Care:

• Add or increase coverage.

You may also want to consider making changes to the plans listed below. Such changes do not require completion of a change of status form and can be done at any time.

Change Beneficiaries on Retirement and Insurance plans

• Change the beneficiaries on your base retirement and life insurance, as well as any other supplemental plans.
  

Fee Courtesy

• Dependents of full-time academic and staff emplyees are eligible for the tuition fee courtesy plan.

IU Tax Deferred Account (formerly IU Tax Deferred Annuity Plan)

• Begin or stop IU Tax Deferred Account.

IU Retirement Savings Plan

• Begin or stop IU Retirement Savings Plan account.
