Resources for Starting Retirement Income Benefits

Separations under the ERIP do not automatically result in the initiation of income benefits under PERF, IU Retirement Plan, or Social Security. ERIP participants are not required to start retirement distributions after separating from IU. (See exception below.) For those who do, however, a separate action is required to start distributions. See contact information below.

Exception: Employees age 70 or older may need to initiate retirement income benefits under IRS regulations.

Valuable information about the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF) can be found at the IU PERF Web site.

Employees may access their PERF account on the PERF Web site with a PERF PIN and passcode. If you do not know this information, contact PERF at 1-888-526-1687. If you would like to reach an account representative, hold the line until your call is forwarded.

Participant Rights and Responsibilities Upon Transfer or Termination
