Staff Attendance at the Inauguration of
Adam W. Herbert as Indiana University’s 17th President
On Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 3:00 p.m., Dr. Adam Herbert will be inaugurated
as Indiana University’s 17th president. This event will be held
at the IU Auditorium in Bloomington, with live video feeds to other campus
locations.
The inauguration of Dr. Herbert is an exceptional event, and he is expected
to share his vision for the university. All Staff employees have been
invited to attend this event and are encouraged to do so. The following
guidelines apply:
-
Attendance at Dr. Herbert’s inauguration or a live video feed
at another campus, is to be treated as a work-related activity. Staff
employees are not required to use paid time off benefits or to incur
an absence without pay to attend this event. This applies only to
Staff who are scheduled to work on April 15 at 3:00 p.m. and who actually
attend the president’s inauguration in person or at a live video
feed.
-
If an employee’s shift ends prior to the conclusion of the
inauguration, the employee would be paid only through the end of the
normal shift unless other arrangements have been made to adjust the
schedule. Overtime should not be incurred as a result of attending
the inauguration.
-
Supervisory approval is required for Staff who attend this event
during work time, and supervisors should use good judgment in supporting
employees’ requests while ensuring that essential services continue
as expected.
This is indeed a special event for Indiana University. Please make every
effort to accommodate Staff employees who wish to attend.
