JOB PURPOSE:
Performs meter reading and maintenance of meters, locating utilities and documentation of utility systems and equipment on various University campuses.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works independently to read and maintain utility meters. Uses state of the art locating techniques, mapping software, GPS equipment and software, and digital camera and imaging software to locate and document utility equipment systems and equipment.
Visits construction sites and works with construction superintendents to verify the details and progress of installations, the location of utilities, and the repair of utility systems.
Advises the Utility Information Group of updates and revisions for changes in utility, topographic, and building information.
Serves as technical resource person for University staff and outside contractor/consultant to provide additional utility site information that may affect variations in design and installation of utility systems.
Completes required documentation and location of work accurately, legibly, and within specified timeframes.
Keeps abreast of all campus construction activity to protect University assets.
Assumes duties of temporary Crew Leader as needed. Ensures the completion of work assignments in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner within specified timeframes and complies with all safety policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of computer and standard office software (electronic mail, word processing, database, and spreadsheet).
Knowledge of the Maintenance Management System (MMS), utility mapping, and photo editing software.
Ability to use printer, plotter, radio communications, cell phone, digital camera, GPS equipment, locating equipment, water testing and leak detection equipment, valve keys, torches, meter test bench, and basic hand tools.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED. Completion of training program requirements for UIG Master Specialist.
Experience: Eight years experience in metering, locating and documentation.
Required Certifications/Licenses: Driver’s license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends most time outdoors, frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
