JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Asbestos Worker / SMST

JOB PURPOSE
Identifies, removes, packages, transports, and disposes of hazardous materials including asbestos, lead-based paint, and transite in building systems (electrical, heating, plumbing, etc.).
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses a variety of hand and power tools, removes asbestos from pipe fittings, removes floor tile, removes transite from siding or roofing, removes ceiling asbestos material, removes electrical cable in manholes, and removes lead paint.
Builds/removes enclosures.
Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
Drives vehicle as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the removal of asbestos in building systems.
Ability to operate negative air machine, tile lift machine, sweepers, encap sprayers, glove bags, spud hoe, and related tools and equipment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Two years experience as an Asbestos Worker
Required Certification/Licenses: Asbestos Abatement Worker Certification; valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying over 50 lbs. multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Equal amount of time spent indoors and outdoors with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
