JOB PURPOSE:
Under direct supervision, performs serving, cleaning, and stocking duties in University cafeterias or dining rooms in order to facilitate customer service.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleans up spilled food and drinks, and removes trays, trash, and other items left on tables.
Replenishes supplies of food, condiments, and equipment at steam tables and service bars.
Fills beverage and ice dispensers and supplies salad bar and condiment stations.
Wipes tables and seats with dampened cloths.
Maintains adequate supplies of items such as trays, utensils, napkins, straws, plates, salt and pepper packets, etc.
Apportions and serves food to facility residents, employees, or patrons.
Empties wastebaskets and cleans all equipment.
Cleans and polishes counters, shelves, walls, furniture, and equipment in food service areas and other areas of dining halls, and mops and vacuums floors.
Orders necessary food supplies from appropriate sources.
Performs duties of Food Service Helper and other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic kitchen sanitation methods.
Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to review and analyze impending menus to determine appropriate levels for supplies.
Ability to perform work requiring considerable standing and light-medium physical effort under hot working conditions.
Acceptable standards of personal cleanliness.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Some high school
Experience: Previous experience helpful but not required.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, squatting/kneeling, climbing, balancing, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends most time indoors. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc.
