JOB PURPOSE:
Attends to the regular general maintenance of convectors, and battery operated smoke detectors in Residential Programs and Services facilities. Cleans equipment, replaces filters, batters and smoke detectors, and maintains records related to this maintenance.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Removes convector cover and filter; disposes of filter; replaces convector insulation as necessary; and installs new filters and replaces convector cover.
Cleans work area when maintenance is completed and returns property to its original location.
Tests battery operated smoke detectors in student rooms and apartments according to manufacturer's guidelines. If necessary, replaces battery and/or detector. Maintains service log of tests and replacements.
Provides training, support, and direction to hourly assistants. Assigns work, monitors performance, and reports activities and problems to maintenance manager.
Substitutes for Maintenance Worker 1 st Class as needed.
Maintains inventory of necessary filters and chemicals. Evaluates inventory against planned service calls and identifies tool, chemical, and material needs. Notifies maintenance manager of inventory needs and/or reorders as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Some knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools used to perform job duties.
Ability to operate the specific tools used in the area of expertise, including related tools and equipment.
Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Two-years general maintenance with concentration in heating/cooling and electrical.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends most time indoors with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
