JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Lab Attendant II / SMOK

JOB CODE: 001131

JOB PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, maintains inventory and assists with customer purchases for laboratory use.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares chemical solutions for classes using various concentrated caustic chemicals, bottles, and solutions.

Distributes appropriate chemicals and solutions to laboratory stations for each experiment; and maintains full reagent bottles.

Sets up demonstration equipment following lab manual instructions.

Maintains inventory of chemicals and ensures correct labeling of bottles.

Assists in production of video taped presentations.

Orders, sets up, delivers, and removes chemicals and equipment used in lecture demonstrations and laboratory courses.

Checks in shipments, stocks shelves, delivers materials, recommends equipment and solutions to customers, and performs material breakdowns.

Trains new employees with stockroom procedure and the locations of the various supplies and materials.

Performs related duties as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.

Knowledge of common arithmetical computations.

Knowledge of various safety equipment including safety glasses; protective coat, apron, and gloves; ventilated hoods; carbon dioxide and dry chemical fire extinguishers; fire showers; fire blanket; first aid equipment; etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:   High school diploma or GED

Experience:   One-year experience working in a lab environment.

Required Certifications/Licenses:  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, squatting/kneeling, climbing, balancing, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends most time indoors. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
