JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, assists maintenance workers in a variety of general maintenance projects.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gathers and carries tools, supplies, and equipment to and from storage and working areas.
Maintains tools and equipment, and keeps supplies and parts in order.
Holds scaffolding members in place while bolts are tightened.
Breaks up concrete.
Digs trenches.
Mops, brushes, or spreads paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
Applies caulking with sandpaper, solvent, and wiping rags to prepare surfaces for painting.
Assists in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, damaged ceiling tile, window shades, and Venetian blinds, curtain rods, kick plates, and doors.
Assists in fastening material together with nails, screws, dowel pins, and glue.
Cleans work area, tools, machine, and equipment.
Performs other tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools used to perform job duties.
Ability to operate the specific tools used in the area of expertise, including related tools and equipment.
Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: One-year previous experience preferred.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends most time indoors with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
