JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Multilith Operator / SMOM

JOB PURPOSE:

Operates and maintains a standard size offset (multilith) press.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duplicates catalogs, bulletins and other printed material, involving multiple color processing.

Turns, pushes or moves controls to set and adjust speed, temperature, inkflow, and position and pressure tolerances of press.

Loads, positions and adjusts unprinted materials on holding fixture or in loading and feeding mechanisms of press.

Inspects and examines printed products for print clarity, color accuracy, conformance to specifications and external defects.

Directs and monitors activities of workers feeding, inspecting and tending printing machines and materials.

Keeps daily time and materials usage reports and records identifying information printed on manufactured products and parts.

Monitors feeding, printing and racking processes of press to maintain specified operating levels and detect malfunctions.

Schedules work loads to meet deadlines.

Maintains records of work requested and completed.

Orders supplies.

Sets up press including: adjusting; aligning; inking; filling paper feeder; fitting plate; regulating ink flow, air, blanket, and roller pressure; etc.

Breaks down, cleans, and reassembles press as required.

Makes minor repairs and adjustments including replacing accessible worn or defective parts.

Maintains continuous observation of press during automatic operation.

Operates other less complex duplicating and processing machines when press is idle, such as; master maker, plate maker, collator, stapler, binder, drill, folder, etc.

Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of practices and equipment of a small offset press printing shop.

Ability to operate a standard size offset press and other less complex duplicating and processing machines.

Skill in adjusting, cleaning, and making minor repairs to offset press and other duplicating processing machines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Some high school

Experience: One-year experience operating printing or duplicating equipment

Required Certifications/Licenses:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends most time indoors, frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
