JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Night Custodial Worker / SM0I

JOB PURPOSE:

Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Performing routine light maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.
*Night Custodial Worker performs similar work during evening and night hours.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clean building floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet mopping/dust mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.

Gather and empty trash.

Service, clean, and supply restrooms.

Clean and polish furniture and fixtures. Replace light bulbs.

Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.

Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.

Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.

Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

Clean, replace, and hang blinds, drapes, and entrance mats.

Clear sidewalks, drives, and adjacent areas. Shovel snow.

Identify and report needed building repairs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general cleaning procedures and equipment.

Ability to operate and use standard cleaning equipment and materials.

Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: General knowledge at the high school level

Experience: Previous custodial experience preferred

Required Certifications/Licenses: None

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends most time indoors, possible exposure to extreme hot or cold for one hour plus. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
