JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Pest Control Operator-Equipment Repair / SMOT

JOB PURPOSE:

Applies chemicals in campus buildings, facilities, and surrounding areas to control pest infestations. Repairs and maintains various types of equipment used for custodial services.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pest Control

Inspects premises to identify infestation source and extent of damage to property, wall and roof porosity, and access to infested locations.

Sprays or dusts chemical solutions, powders, or gases into buildings, rooms, attic spaces, eaves, and exterior perimeters to kill pests and vermin such as: rodents, termites, roaches, ants, spiders, and bees.

Sets and places mechanical traps and poisons.

Cuts or bores openings in building or surrounding concrete, access infested areas, insert nozzle, and injects pesticide to impregnate ground or substrate.

Equipment Repair

Repairs and maintains a variety of gas and electrically powered custodial equipment such as: snow and leaf blowers, sweepers, buffers, vacuums, high pressure pumps and sprayers.

Installs/replaces parts such as: bearings, motor brushes, bushings, clutch plates, and pad drivers. Oils and lubricates equipment. Tests equipment against manufacturers specifications.

Repairs hand tools and equipment.

Fabricates electrical extension cords.

Repairs/replaces restroom fixtures.

Issues equipment, maintains parts inventory, and recommends purchase/replacement of equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of different pests and methods of control.

Ability to use and operate standard pest control substances, materials, and equipment (sprayers, fumigators, traps, drills, pumps, and injectors).

Ability to read and interpret instructions in accordance with pesticide application labeling.

Knowledge of custodial care equipment and their design, use, and repair/maintenance procedures.

Ability to read and understand drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School diploma or GED

Experience: Three years electrical or mechanical repair

Required Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license; State certification for pesticide applicator 7a & 7b

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends most time indoors. Possible exposure vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
