Service Maintenance Job Specs

JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Service Attendant II / SMOK

JOB PURPOSE:

Services automobiles, buses, trucks, boats, and other automotive or marine vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories. May lubricate vehicle, change motor oil, install antifreeze, or replace lights or other accessories, such as windshield wiper blades or fan belts. May repair or replace tires.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Checks air pressure in vehicle tires, levels of fuel, motor oil, transmission, radiator, battery, and other fluids, and adds air, oil, water, or other fluids, as required.

Cleans windshields, and/or washes and waxes vehicles.

Activates fuel pumps and fills fuel tanks of vehicles with gasoline or diesel fuel to specified levels.

Installs accessories, such as batteries, windshield wiper blades, fan belts, bulbs and headlamps.

Performs minor repairs such as adjusting brakes, replacing spark plugs, and changing engine oil and filters.

Rotates, tests, and repairs or replaces tires.

Tests and charges batteries.

Assists in the training of new employees.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of various car types and their maintenance.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools used to perform job duties.

Ability to operate the specific tools used in the area of expertise, including related tools and equipment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Some high school

Experience: One year related experience preferred.

Required Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends some time outdoors, with possible frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of body or extremities. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
