JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Sign Painter / SM0T

JOB PURPOSE:

Designs, constructs, installs, and repairs signs and banners. Constructs plastic materials by hand or machine to produce interior engraved signs.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates sign machine and Gerber edge.

Constructs and repairs signs using methods including spray paint, stripping, and airbrushing. Operates stripping brush.

Installs signs using basic hand tools.

Completes necessary paperwork.

Performs other general building maintenance as assigned, including but not limited to moving furniture and doors, painting walls and trim, cleaning graffiti, applying spray paint, and hanging vinyl.

Drives truck, bucket truck, and gator as needed.

Engraver/Sign Maker

Engraves lettering, design, or characters in workpiece surface, using hand tools and engraving tool. Uses power saw to cut materials.

Determines engraver machine settings and moves bars or levers to reproduce designs on rollers or plates.

Operates machine to engrave design into steel rollers or plates. Operates edger to remove excess material.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to operate air brush, spray equipment, computerized sign machine, radial arm saw, and stationary edger.

Ability to letter signs.

Ability to cut silk screens.

Ability to use basic hand tools.

Graphic layout skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Four years experience doing design and artwork; three years experience in engraved sign making

Required Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends most time indoors. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
