JOB PURPOSE:
Perform meter reading and maintenance of meters. Perform basic duties related to locating or documentation of utility systems and equipment.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work independently to read and maintain various utility meters.
Assist higher skilled workers to locate and mark underground utilities or gather and document data related to utility systems with photographs and field notes.
Visit construction sites and works with construction superintendents to verify the details and progress of installations, the location of utilities, repair of utility systems, or reading and maintaining metersor repair of existing systems.
Advise the Utility Information Group (UIG) of updates and revisions for changes in utility, topographic, and building information.
Assist in reviewing research files, archives, and as-built documents to identify utility locations not previously known.
Serve as technical resource person for University staff and outside contractor/consultants to provide additional utility site information that may affect variations in design and installation of utility systems.
Complete required documentation accurately, legibly and within specified timeframes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of computer and standard office software (electronic mail, word processing, database, and spreadsheet).
Knowledge of the Maintenance Management System (MMS), utility mapping, and photo editing software.
Ability to use printer, plotter, radio communications, cell phone, digital camera, GPS equipment, and basic hand tools.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or GED. Completion of training program requirements for UIG Specialist.
Experience: Four years experience in metering, locating and documentation.
Required Certifications/Licenses: Driver’s license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Spends most time outdoors, frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
