JOB TITLE AND GRADE: Utility Information Trainee / SM0N

JOB PURPOSE:

Read and maintain campus utility meters. Assist higher skilled workers with location and documentation tasks.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under guidance and instruction from higher skilled Utility Information Group (UIG) employees, receives training in the reading and maintenance of campus utility meters.

Walks or uses vehicle to access sites for the reading and recording of utility usage from meters.

Verifies readings to locate abnormal consumption and investigates reasons for fluctuations.

Under guidance and instruction from higher skilled Utility Information Group employees, acquires basic knowledge of locating and documenting utility systems.

Visits construction sites and works with construction superintendents and crews to verify the details of new installations. Takes field notes and photographs.

Assists the Utility Information Group (UIG) with updates and revisions for changes in utility, topographic, and building information.

Assists with reviewing research files, archives, and as-built documents to identify utilty system locations not previoulsly known.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of CAD software.

Knowledge of standard office software such as electronic mail, spreadsheet, wordprocessing, and database software.

Ability to use printer, plotter, radio communications, cell phone, digital camera, and basic hand tools.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: One-year CAD based utility documentation or locating

Required Certifications/Licenses: Driver’s license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs multiple times per shift, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spends most time outdoors, frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures for one hour plus. Possible exposure to distraction/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, electricity, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
