Service Maintenance Study – Bloomington campus

The University formed a work group made up of management from Campus Division, Physical Plant, Indiana Memorial Union, Residential Programs and Services and Human Resources representatives to review the Service Maintenance jobs and salary schedule. The Service Maintenance Study is expected to be completed in early 2010.  This web page will be updated with project details as they become available. 

DEFINITIONS

A job is a collection of positions that have similar major duties and responsibilities.

A position is a specific set of duties and responsibilities assigned to and performed by an individual employee.

A job specification provides a summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that are required of the numerous positions that are within a given job.  It also includes the minimum knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience needed to perform the duties of the positions that are found in the job.

A position description provides a detailed description of the specific duties, responsibilities and required knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience of a particular position.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

The Service Maintenance Study project consists of three phases:

1. Review jobs and update job specifications
2. Gather and analyze market data for comparable jobs
3. Review and update salary schedule

Service Maintenance Job Specifications
The jobs and job specifications below have been reviewed and updated by unit management and Human Resources to reflect the current duties and requirements of the jobs.  As they are completed, the additional job specifications will be added.

Staff should speak to their Supervisor or Human Resources Representative if they have questions about the job specification for the job that their position falls under.

Market Data
Salary survey data for comparable jobs in other relevant labor markets will be gathered and analyzed to determine the competitive position of the university’s Bloomington Campus Service Maintenance Salary Schedule.

Salary Schedule
Once the market data analysis is complete, a review of the salary schedule will be conducted.
