Job Purpose
This is complex technical and administrative work related to the analysis, programming, and maintenance of computer operations.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Designs, authors, debugs, documents and supports custom software for use on departmental computer systems.
Researches and recommends third party software for purchase; consults with departmental personnel regarding information system needs; installs new hardware and software.
Monitors system; performs preventive maintenance, modifications, and simple repair; performs any necessary calibrations.
Oversees programming staff; serves as resource on technical questions.
Trains staff in use of new computer hardware and software.
Assists graduate students in advising students with technical questions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of computer networking and system software.
Basic mechanical and electronic repair skills.
Problem solving skills.
Good communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
Supervisory skills.
Ability to conceptualize and develop applications using database, spreadsheet, or high level language.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Associates degree in computer science or closely related field. Directly related work experience may be substituted at a ratio of two years of progressively more responsible experience for each year of education.
Experience: Two years computer programming experience.
