Job Purpose

This is technical work performing a variety of tasks related to maintaining the electronic equipment in the computing center machine room.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Monitors backups on various computer systems to ensure correct tape inputs and correct start and stop times; investigate and correct any problems that might occur.

Analyzes electronic equipment and environmental system malfunctions and initiate corrective action.

Evaluates and verifies tape media reliability to copy and store data.

Assists in training staff; serves as resource on technical questions.

Maintains on-site and off-site tape libraries.

Performs all scheduled and emergency system recovery procedures.

Resets lines and software teleprocessing network and I/O equipment.

Works on rotation in all areas of Operations.

Provide technical guidance to the support center and end users.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of operation, maintenance and adjustment of data processing machines.

Thorough knowledge of automation software processing.

Good training skills.

Ability to work well with wide range of people.

Ability to exercise independent judgement.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Associates degree in computer systems technology, computer science, or closely related field. Directly related work experience may be substituted at a ratio of two years of progressively more responsible experience for each year of education.

Experience: One year computer maintenance experience.
