| I/SSOD | Fifteen hours of college course work in biology, chemistry, or a relevant scientific field. |
| II/SSOE | Fifteen hours of college course work in biology, chemistry, or a relevant scientific field and one year of work experience in a laboratory environment. |
| III/SSOF | Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a relevant scientific field. |
| IV/SSOG | Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a relevant scientific field and eighteen months of work experience in a laboratory environment. |
| V/SSOH | Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or a relevant scientific field. |
