This is customer service work performing a variety of routine and non-routine tasks involved in the daily operations of library department desk.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees library department desk; trains and directs student assisting in these duties; serves as resource on questions regarding policies and procedures.
Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answering questions, handling problems, and teaching library procedures; answers phone; responds to phone-in questions or refers to appropriate office or individual.
Oversees reshelving of library materials to ensure that they are easily available to patrons.
Processes new material coming into department, ensuring that it can be located quickly and easily.
Monitors various health and safety concerns including smoking regulations, building and fire safety regulations, and noise level.
Monitors supply inventory, restocking as necessary.
Maintains library databases; updates and purges as necessary; compiles and collates information from databases and prepares reports on library use.
Monitors equipment; performs minor maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of library system and procedures.
Knowledge of computers and database/word processing/spreadsheet software.
Familiarity with copiers and microfilm readers/printers
Good communications skills.
Ability to work well with a wide range of people.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Six months library experience.
